Sweeet Bruce. I sure like that. Yes, that is a weissenborn type instrument. (there is some sort of copywrite on the actual weissenborn thing )

Check out Xavier Rudd too for some great weissenborn playing. you'll find one of his video's just down the page on your link.Rod True39090.9688541667

Rod, yeah Xavier Rudd is quite unusual. Quite a handsome guy too. Who'd have ever put a Weissenborn and a Didgeriedoo together in one set? I've been watching that one for a week now. Just showed it to my 14 year old. A few moments later from upstairs I hear a didge fire up.... kids.

Very cool. I'd guess that if he's from Brazil he probably speaks
Portuguese too

I realize tht there is alot of string pressure on these types of instruments, but I noticed this Christiaan Oyens' lapsteel is {well looks like to me anyhow} really bowing forward, is that right?
Is that the normal state of being for these?
Cheers

Charlie, I can't answer your question but I thought the fretboard looked like it had a pretty good bow in it too.

Charliewood,

It depends on the string gauges used and tunings as with any guitar. You certainly need enough tension in the strings to support the slide, but I play my Weiss mainly in Open D (DADFsharpAD) and am using 0.015", 0.018", 0.024", 0.032", 0.042", 0.056" strings so the tension is pretty much like a set of lights in EADGBE.

There is no truss-rod as such and as long as the neck bow stays stable and the guitar doesn't fold up on itself over time there are no real issues - extra string height/action helps with the slide and the intonation rests solely with the slide-bar and the player. In fact that's one of the beauties of these instruments - they are effectively micro-tonal and you get an infinite range of notes to play including the ones David Lindley calls "the Stinky Notes" Dave White39091.6619212963
